Dialogue between

Congressmen Mike Pence

(Republican)

And

Chris Van Holden

(Democrat)

Video clip hosted by

Lester

Mr President!  As below is the transcript of the video clip critical Analysisby the media. Mr President! This dialogue was soon after the Question and Answer at the conference in Baltimore where you were invited to address GOP conference.

Lester:

  • Joiningus President’s Visit to Republican conference. Mike Pence of Indiana is chairman of the Republican conference and Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland. Congressmen who is also the head of Democratic congressional Campaign Committee. Congressmen Good morning. It is good to be with you this morning.
  • Congressman Pence! If I begin with you watching the session between Republicans and the President I felt I was watching intervention or strange couple trying to reconcile was the cause of bipartinshipfurthered and by this meeting?

Congressman Pence:

  • Well, Look! think, I think, the house of Republican was grateful that the President came and met with us in completely obstructured environments and what quite frankly the American people had been hearing from his administration or from the Democrats from in the last year and that the Republicans has been offering a positive substantive alternatives to all the major legislative issues that have come before the Congress in the last year we had Stimulus Bill, we had a budget that put our Fiscal house in order. We had an energy Bill that had achieved energy independence and we had healthcare Bill that focused on lowering healthcare costs instead of growing size of government.
  • The fact that President before the American people acknowledged that the Republicans have been offering alternatives and expressed a desire to listen to those and work with us on those and work with us on those I think represented measurable progress in the public debate.

Observation:

Congressman Pence evaded answering the question. In the Question and Answer Session President Obama clearly highlighted many times that his administration have looked into the ideas of Republican Party and most of them have been included in the Bills and agreed by the Republican Party. But Congressman Pence ironically gave the impression that the President has acknowledged in the conference the GOP has ideas:

…….and what quite frankly the American people had been hearing from his administration or from the Democrats from in the last year and that the Republicans has been offering a positive substantive alternatives to all the major legislative issues…….

……..acknowledged that the Republicans have been offering alternatives and expressed a desireto listen to those and work with us on those and work with us……..

Lester:Let me turn to Congressman Van Hollen on the same issue. Congressman! Republicans has been cast by Democrats as the party of No. did you anything in the exchange you heard that lead you to the different opinion now that Republicans are not necessarily saying No, we have some ideas listento.

Congressman Chris: Well. I think the President made it clear that he has indeed listened to the number of Republican ideas. In fact he pointed out that in Stimulus Bill I have incorporated a number of provisions that historically advocated by Republicans and some were acknowledged at that time. For example: small Business Tax and Bonus Deprecation. He pointed out that 1/3 of the economic recovery Bill involve tax relief including tax relief for 95% of the American people and my friend Mike characterised that the other day as ‘Boutique Tax Cuts’, the tax cuts for 95% working Americans, he described as ‘Boutique’. And so the President has incorporated lot of these ideas. I think the point that President was making in a Democracy you can’t get 100% of what you want all the time. It is the process of give and take and some times the Republican has said it is no give it’s all take.

Observation: Congressman Chris has repudiated Congressman Pence’s remarks that the President has not been listening to the ideas of RepublicanParty and supported this with facts:

…..In fact he pointed out that in
Stimulus Bill I have incorporated a numberof provisions that historically advocated by Republicans and some were acknowledged at that time…….

Lester:Congressman Pence! This President seems to be saying at times: I am listening to your ideas but in the case of healthcare that just not realistic. How did you react to that?

Congressman Pence:Well, Look! You know, I do consider Chris is a colleague, who I respect. But come on! Democrats in this administration spent last year saying we are party of No ideas. Everybody knows that the Stimulus Bill a year ago was gathered together in the back room by the Democrats in this administration without considering a single Republican proposal and the small ball tax cuts, that was there, as well as the liberal spending priorities had … up that Stimulus Bill have been an utter failure. Unemployment is gone from 7.5% to 10% across the country and it is heart breaking 10.8% here in Baltimore. Look! The progress yesterday was that I think we have managed with the President’s help frankly to put to the lie (law) this accusation that Republican party of No ideas. (Scene of Applause displayed) I am standing out here in the freezing cold here Lester. Chris is warm and you are warm. Republican are better with cold in this debate for the last year. Yesterday the President ….all right! All right! You guys have ideas, you have solutions, and the American people can go to www.gop.gov take a look all.

Observation:

Congressman again evaded to answer the question and highlighted the unemployment figures to score Political Points:

…… But come on! Democrats in this administration spent last year saying we are party of No ideas……..

…….that Stimulus Bill have been an utter failure. Unemployment is gone from 7.5% to 10% across the country and it is heart breaking 10.8%here in Baltimore…..

Lester: Before I let you, the time is nearly up… I do want to get on one other….

Congressman Chris: Can I just respond to that please.

Lester:Quickly, very quickly

Congressman Chris: The President pointed out that the economy grew at 6% last quarter compared to year ago when we were plummeting negative 6 ½ %. I do not … what Mike Pence thinks what caused that to happen. You have to believe in the truth fairy to believe that just magically reversed itself.

The President said he is willing to listen to the ideas the Republicans haven ideas. But he is not willing to turn back the clock to some of the ideas that got us into this messto begin with. Mike Pence for example said to the President will you accept across the board Tax cuts. The President said I will accept tax cuts for middle American and not gona again push tax breaks to the rich American we got to …..

Observation:

Congressman Chris repudiated the claim by Congressman Pence that although the employment increased to 10% but there has been economic growth:

….. The President pointed out that the economy grew at 6% last quarter compared to year ago when we were plummeting negative 6 ½ %.I do not … what Mike Pence thinks what caused that to happen…….

Lester:We got to end here. You managed to get the last word. Mike Pence and Congressman! Gentlemen Thanks, thanks very much, we appreciate it.

Mr President! No doubt this gives you and your team ammunition to win back the support of Democrat, Republican and Tea Party supporters.

May Allah be with you.

Wa’Assalam

[May Allah Bless you]
